Find Out If You Suffer From Panic Attacks While Sleeping And What Are The Available Remedies
The stressors we have to live with today that cause us to lose sleep were not something that our ancestors had to deal with. We tend to feel tired and exhausted after one of those sleepless nights. If these sleepless nights continue, thus begins the onset of nocturnal anxiety attacks. This will inevitably end any normalcy to your life.
As humans we have this pattern where we are awake for a certain time and we sleep for a certain time. If we are lucky we are awake for close to 16 hours and we sleep for 8. We have to abide by this never-ending cycle because that is the way our bodies were designed. However, when there is an obstruction in the normal course of life, the balance is lost and then problems creep in. People who have a tendency of sleeping less than usual are likely to suffer from chronic sleep problems and one such issue of concern is sleep panic attacks.
I say may because sleep anxiety attacks is not easily diagnosed. You see it is a mix of many symptoms that indicate various sleep disorders. So a reliable diagnosis may be delayed. During the first phases of the night attacks, you will not sleep much or well for that matter and will most certainly feel drained the next morning. When such a situation is encountered, it is recommended to seek a professional help.
The standard symptoms of panic attacks while sleeping are insomnia, drowsiness during the day and unpredictable sleeping patterns. Insomnia is more frequent than the other two symptoms in the initial stages. Also panic attacks during sleep are frequent with people having irregular sleeping behaviors.
It is alleged that over 50 percent of panic disorder sufferers are likely to have sleep panic attacks, but these are likely to happen during the day.
Sadly, people that suffer from panic attacks while sleeping formulate a fear of sleeping which makes matters worse. While it may seem logical and obvious to some, sleeping pills are not the answer to resolving these problems. You could make things worse by becoming addicted to them.
Nocturnal anxiety disorder cannot be associated with dreams as the attacks occur at the earlier phases of Rapid Eye Movement or REM.Therefore, dreams cannot be held accountable for triggering panic attacks. Also, the occurrence of nocturnal anxiety attacks can result in sudden waking up, shakiness, breathlessness, fear, perspiration and tremors. Such symptoms usually go on when the person is in deep sleep.
The discovery of the cause of sleep panic attacks has not been made. Some have suspected that the buildup of carbon dioxide in the body while we sleep may be the cause. This is known to be the "false suffocation alarm."
Panic attacks can be treated and medications can completely annihilate the signs of such attacks.
Even So, medicines should be used as a last resort as these disorders can be cured with certain restrictions and life changes. To be clear, we're talking about anxiety medications and not sleeping pills.
You can free yourself of the night panic attacks and anxiety attacks in general if at first you can make peace with yourself. This is a very crucial step. You must understand yourself first and then try to explain it to a friend or your family. The more you express the better for you. Apart from that you must make certain lifestyle changes as well - such as quitting or limiting smoking, caffeine and alcohol. Since these substances can intensify the attack it is best to limit their use. Additionally I would say that self help is the best help to cure night panic attacks.
