B&N's Original Nook Revolutionary Wireless Reading Device Takes On Amazon's Portable Reading Device
The new Nook wireless portable reading device being sold by Barnes and Noble, the worlds leading book store with more than 1,300 branches, seems all set to lock horns with the worlds best selling ebook reader device, the Kindle2.
Though not long released, the Nook electronic book readers are searching to ruffle Amazon.com's feathers even more by taking it on straightforwardly in a sector of the market, that up to yet, the Amazon Kindle has dominated. Since it's launch, to begin with as the Kindle then afterward in February 2009 as the Amazon kindle 2 , it has re-ignited the portable reading device market by offering a mix of revolutionary technology, through it's direct connect anywhere wireless broadband and also the chief variety of titles available for download at fantastic, cheaper than the high street, prices.
No doubt after going through ebook reader reviews, customers brought in to the concept in a enormous way and it is only lately that the rest of the trade have woken up to the statement that this is the future of book buying. An so in the last couple of months we have had the announcement from Sony of their intent to join in the fun, with their shortly to be unveiled Daily Edition, and the most recent press release from Barnes and Noble that their own contender, the Nook, will be back to full production very quickly.
There are no doubts that the Amazon kindle 2 is the reader everybody is going after. And to be honest it's pleasing to see a little competition in this market. Yes we have had the iRex iLiad but the ebook readers reviews disliked it because it was a little on the bulky side to be a revolutionary wireless reading device, wonderful for office use with the 1:1 A4 reproduction, but much like the KindleDX - another wireless ebook reader - not something you would wish for to take on vacation, or put in your bag or pocket for that matter, and it was in no way going to vie on price was it?
So now we have two large companies willing to go head to head, with the strength of Amazon, on all fronts. The book reader arm of sony in recent times improved the size of their library at the Sony-Store and reduced the prices of their digitally delivered novels to match that of Amazons and with any luck Barnes and Noble, who have continuously been in the same ballpark price wise, will match them title for title as well.
But the leading news for clients has to be the shift away from proprietary file formats utilized by Sony in the early days and still used by the Kindle now. To clarify the situation I will apply Kindle2 as an illustration, remember this is still the case with the Kindle so it makes it clearer.
