Apple introduced the MacBook Pro as the successor to the PowerBook G4 way back in early 2006. These top quality laptops have been continually improved since their release.
Some of the new revisions introduced design changes but this year is the year of the Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 notebook and while the look still looks just like last year, Apple made many unique features that are more than welcome especially if you have not upgraded your MacBook Pro for the past several years.
Advantages
The Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 notebook joins the Sandy Bridge bandwagon as each of its models have Intel second generation Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The actual Intel Core i5 2620M is the new engine under the hood of the 13-inch MacBook Pro. 15-inch and 17-inch models now have quad-core power which is essential for running high-end applications like Final Cut Pro and Adobe Photoshop without problems. The actual memory remains the same at 4 GB although that can now expand to 16 GB of RAM. Improvements have been made in the graphics end as well with the two larger styles sporting a fast AMD Radeon HD 6490M for decent gaming. Die hard gamers can go for a custom configuration that includes the Radeon HD 6750M. Don't worry about losing out on life of the battery, since the Intel HD Graphics 3000 runs very efficiently. The new MacBook Pros pretty much scream in every speed test.
The other significant change lies in the Mini Display Port which is generally used for hooking up an Apple LED Cinema Display or other supported models. With the Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 notebook, a technology by Intel referred to as Thunderbolt has been implemented which makes the port far more flexible. Along with speeds up to 12 times faster than the old FireWare 800 interface, high capacity hard drives will finally receive the performance boosts that they need for professionals to transfer large amounts of data. Thunderbolt contains the additional advantage of supporting multiple devices in a daisy chain while maintaining maximum performance.
The new MacBook Pros even come with a new style of built in webcam, the FaceTime HD camera. Apple has set 720p as the brand new standard resolution for video calls with the FaceTime HD camera.
Disadvantages
Along with all of these kinds of upgrades, the battery life had to lessen and the Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 notebook still uses the same battery pack as the earlier model. Don't be too concerned though, because it still lasts a respectable seven hours with wireless turned on. The MacBook Pro 13-inch in addition gets a slight downgrade as it uses the Intel integrated graphics without an AMD or NVIDIA counterpart. Gaming performance is slightly slower but the Intel HD 3000 graphics is far better than previous generations and it is just as efficient.
